The Remnants of Rocky Point Amusement Park

Rocky Point Park was once a staple of summer fun in Warwick, RI. Originally drawing visitors in the 1840s, it developed into a beloved destination with numerous attractions. Unfortunately, the amusement park welcomed its last guests in the 1990s. During the intervening years, Rocky Point was turned into a passive-use park, with walking paths and green fields. Almost all the amusement park structures were cleared away, but a few pieces still remain, hinting at what once was. On my recent trip, I attempted to find the remnants of the park’s former life.

Medfield’s Abandoned Insane Asylum

Abandoned places often have a strange allure. Locations once filled with activity, now slowly and silently decaying. Of course, the nature of what the place once was often adds to the atmosphere. With that in mind, let’s turn to the town of Medfield, MA. Nestled among trees and fields, you’ll find a large, abandoned campus populated by redbrick buildings. Although it may be reminiscent of a college, it is actually a former insane asylum. The public is permitted to walk the grounds, and I found the site to be both fascinating and somber.
